Feature Gating¶
Feature gating controls which Configly features are available based on your current subscription plan. This page explains what each plan unlocks, what read-only mode means, and what to do when you hit a limit.

Read-Only Mode¶
Your account enters read-only mode when:
- Your trial period expires and you have not upgraded
- Your subscription lapses due to unresolved payment failure
- Your subscription has been cancelled and the billing period has ended
What You Can Do in Read-Only Mode¶
- View all existing snapshots, diffs, health check results, and configuration data
- Search across existing configuration objects
- Export or download any data you need
What You Cannot Do in Read-Only Mode¶
- Run a new sync
- Create or modify connections
- Run a new health check
- Use What-If simulation
- Use AI analysis
Read-Only Banner¶
When your account is in read-only mode, a banner is displayed at the top of every page explaining why access is restricted and providing a link to the billing page to reactivate or upgrade.
Trial Banner¶
During an active trial, a banner at the top of the app shows how many days remain. As the trial end date approaches the banner becomes more prominent. Click the banner or go to Settings → Billing to upgrade at any time.
Payment Warning Banner¶
If a payment has failed but the subscription has not yet lapsed, a yellow warning banner appears across the top of the app. Your account remains fully functional during this period. Follow the link in the banner or go to Settings → Billing to update your payment method.
Upgrade Prompts¶
When you try to use a feature that is not available on your current plan, Configly displays an upgrade prompt in place of the feature. The prompt explains which plan unlocks the feature and provides a direct link to the billing page.
For example, if you are on a trial and attempt to use AI optimisation, you will see an upgrade prompt rather than the feature.
Hitting Instance Limits¶
Each plan has an instance limit:
- Trial — 2 instances
- Solo Admin — 1 instance
- Multi-Instance — 5 instances
- Agency Toolkit — unlimited
If you attempt to add an instance beyond your plan's limit, you will be prompted to upgrade.
Frequently Asked Questions¶
Will I lose my data when my trial expires? No. Existing snapshots and configuration data are preserved in read-only mode. You only lose the ability to run new syncs or use write actions. Data is only deleted when a cancelled subscription's billing period ends — see Billing & Subscription.
Can I access my data after cancelling? Yes, until the end of your current billing period. After that, all data is immediately and permanently deleted. See Billing & Subscription.
What happens to scheduled health checks in read-only mode? Scheduled health checks stop running. Existing results remain viewable.
How do I get out of read-only mode? Go to Settings → Billing and either upgrade to a paid plan (if your trial expired) or update your payment method (if payment failed). Access is restored immediately upon successful payment.
