Frequently Asked Questions

Security & Privacy

What data does Configly access?

Configly only reads your Zendesk configuration:

  • Triggers, automations, macros, and views
  • Custom fields (ticket, user, and organisation)
  • SLA policies, groups, brands, schedules, and ticket forms

Configly does not access:

  • Ticket content
  • Customer data
  • Agent conversations
  • Attachments

Is my data secure?

Yes. Security measures include:

  • Read-only access — Configly cannot modify your Zendesk data
  • Encrypted storage — all credentials encrypted with AES-256-GCM
  • OAuth tokens only — no passwords stored (for OAuth connections)
  • Automatic token refresh — tokens are refreshed automatically before expiry

Can Configly make changes to my Zendesk?

No. Configly only has read permissions. It cannot create, update, or delete any Zendesk configuration. What-If Mode simulates changes locally — nothing is sent to Zendesk.

Who can see my Zendesk configuration?

Only users in your Configly account. Each account is isolated — no one else can see your connections or data.

How do I revoke access?

Two ways:

  1. In Configly: Delete the connection
  2. In Zendesk: Go to Admin > Apps & Integrations > APIs > OAuth Clients and revoke Configly

Account & Authentication

How do I sign in?

Configly supports three sign-in methods:

  • Email and password — create an account with your email
  • Google — click "Continue with Google"
  • Microsoft — click "Continue with Microsoft"

If you use the same email address across different sign-in methods, your accounts are automatically linked.

What is the beta access?

Configly is currently in beta. Access is protected by HTTP basic authentication — your browser will prompt for credentials before you can reach the sign-in page.

Using Configly

How often should I sync?

It depends on your needs:

  • After every Zendesk change — for immediate visibility
  • Daily — for active environments
  • Weekly — for stable environments
  • Before major changes — create a snapshot to compare against later

There's no limit on sync frequency.

What Zendesk plans are supported?

Configly works with all Zendesk plans:

  • Team
  • Growth
  • Professional
  • Enterprise

Note: Rate limits vary by plan. Higher plans allow more frequent syncs.

Can I connect multiple Zendesk instances?

Yes. You can connect as many Zendesk instances as you need — production, sandbox, multiple clients. Each connection is managed separately.

How many snapshots can I keep?

Unlimited. All snapshots are stored and accessible for comparison at any time.

How do I search across all configuration types?

Press Cmd+K (Mac) / Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) to open the command palette. Type to search across triggers, macros, views, fields, and more. Results are grouped by type and clicking a result navigates directly to its detail page.

What is What-If Mode?

What-If Mode lets you simulate configuration changes without affecting your live Zendesk instance. Enable it with the toggle in the navbar or press Cmd+Shift+S / Ctrl+Shift+S. You can:

  • Make virtual edits to triggers, automations, macros, views, fields, and SLA policies
  • See AI-powered impact analysis of your changes
  • Detect conflicts between your changes and existing configuration
  • Discard changes at any time — nothing is sent to Zendesk

Can I export my configuration?

Currently, configuration viewing is within Configly only. Export features may be added in future releases.

How do I disconnect a Zendesk instance?

  1. Go to Connections
  2. Click the three dots menu
  3. Select "Delete"
  4. Confirm deletion

Warning

This deletes all snapshots for that connection and cannot be undone.

Billing & Plans

Can I cancel anytime?

Technical

What browsers are supported?

Configly works best on:

  • Chrome (latest)
  • Firefox (latest)
  • Safari (latest)
  • Edge (latest)

Is there a mobile app?

Not currently. Configly is web-based and works on mobile browsers, but the experience is optimised for desktop.

Does Configly work with Zendesk API tokens?

Yes, but OAuth is recommended. API tokens are supported for legacy integrations but are less secure.

What happens if Zendesk is down?

Syncs will fail, but your existing snapshots remain accessible. You can still browse, compare, and search historical data while Zendesk recovers.

What's the app URL?

Configly is at go.configly.app.

Feature Requests

Can I see who made changes in Zendesk?

Not currently. Configly shows what changed but not who changed it (Zendesk doesn't include this in their API for most configuration types).

Can I restore old configurations?

Not yet. Configly currently shows diffs but doesn't push changes back to Zendesk. This is planned for future releases.

Can I get alerts when things change?

Not yet. Scheduled sync with drift alerts is planned for future releases.
